UPDATED 9/2/22: As mentioned in our last Family Communication, we have continued working to expand the
Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program within our District. CEP allows us to offer free school meals to all students in high-poverty schools without collecting household applications.
We were notified on August 31 that the following neighborhood schools have been added to the CEP program and are now eligible for free meals (breakfast and lunch) for the 22-23 school year: Appleton Bilingual, Edison Elementary, Foster Elementary, Franklin Elementary, Richmond Elementary, and West High School.
What does this mean for your student? All enrolled students of Appleton Bilingual, Badger Elementary, Columbus Elementary, Dunlap Elementary, Edison Elementary, Foster Elementary, Franklin Elementary, Highlands Elementary, Horizons Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Johnston Elementary, McKinley Elementary, Richmond Elementary, Wilson Middle, and West High School are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at no charge during the 2022-2023 school year. Enrolled students of these schools can participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application. There are charter schools within some of our approved schools, such as Magellan, Odyssey, Fox River Academy, ATECH, and Renaissance. These students do not qualify for these free meals unless they qualify through the Direct Certification through the state or they fill out a Free and Reduced Application.
If your elementary student’s school is not a CEP school, they can still receive free school breakfasts for the 2022-2023 school year. This is being made available through the AASD and will encourage our elementary students to fuel up with breakfast at no cost to our families.
While all AASD students had access to healthy school lunches free of charge last school year through the USDA, that program is not available for the 2022-2023 school year. In an effort to make meals as available as possible to our students, we’ve worked to find ways to expand our no-cost meal offerings.
The Appleton Area School District will be making free school breakfasts for all elementary schools, available for the 2022-2023 school year. This will continue to encourage our elementary students to fuel up with breakfast at no cost to our AASD families.
The Appleton Area School District will also be continuing the
Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) while participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program for 2022-2023. Because of the CEP program all enrolled students of
Badger Elementary, Columbus Elementary, Dunlap Elementary, Highlands Elementary, Horizons Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, Johnston Elementary, McKinley Elementary, and Wilson Middle are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at no charge during the 2022-2023 school year. Enrolled students of these schools can participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application. We are also working to expand the CEP program within our District.

Meal Applications
We will still encourage the annual submission of meal applications from households with a student participating in the CEP: however, receipt of free breakfast and lunch meals does not depend on returning it. If you think your family may qualify for Free or Reduced meals, or you aren’t sure, we encourage you to fill out the Free and Reduced meal application.
If you do not fill out a
Free and Reduced form for this school year and you qualify, it may be impacting other benefits that can come along with a completed meal application. The Free and Reduced annual forms are necessary for other programs and may be used to determine if your household is eligible for additional benefits, such as Pandemic Food Share Benefits (P-EBT). Free and Reduced meal applications need to be filled out each school year. Only one application is needed per household.
Families may apply or reapply at any time during the school year. For example, children with a parent or guardian who becomes unemployed or experience financial hardship may become eligible for free and reduced-price meals if the household income drops below the income limit. Forms can also be completed online through the
Parent Portal. When logging into the Portal, the Free and Reduced Meal Benefits Application is available on the center panel under "Meal Benefits.” Have questions? Please call (920) 832-1719, we are happy to help!
